The Graphite Excellence
in Education Awards

Every Great Educator Leaves a Mark.
Every word written in pencil, every equation solved, every idea first sketched—Graphite has quietly helped turn thought into possibility.

Great Educators Do the Same.
They connect knowledge to curiosity, challenge to growth, and potential to possibility. Their influence begins in the classroom but lasts far beyond it.

The Graphite Awards Make That Impact Visible.
They honor the educators who inspire, encourage, and change lives—recognizing work that deserves to be seen and celebrated.

Your work matters.
Your impact lasts.
Your story deserves to be told.
‍
You light the way. We honor the mark you leave.

Award Categories

The Graphite Awards recognizes excellence across three distinct categories, each designed to honor a different dimension of outstanding educational leadership. Categories are designed to ensure broad eligibility across roles, grade levels, and career stages. Nominations are open to outstanding educators, administrators, leaders, and school employees serving in charter, independent, religious, and private PreK–12 schools.

The Spark Award

Eligible Nominees: Any full-time PreK–12 classroom teacher currently teaching in an accredited U.S. school (all grade levels and subjects welcome).

‍

What It Recognizes:

•  Breakthrough instructional strategies that measurably improve student engagement or outcomes

•  Creative, original approaches to curriculum design or project-based learning

•  Courage to experiment, iterate, and share new methods with colleagues

•  A classroom environment students describe as transformative

‍

Example Nominee Profile: A 7th-grade science teacher who redesigned the entire unit on ecosystems around student-led environmental research projects, integrating drone mapping technology and real-time data collection — resulting in a 40% improvement in unit assessment scores and a district-wide curriculum adoption.

The Lighthouse Award

Eligible Nominees: Principals, assistant principals, district superintendents, associate superintendents, and other school/district administrative leaders serving in U.S. schools.
‍

What It Recognizes:

•  Leadership that creates the conditions, culture, and resources for educators to thrive

•  Visionary building an exceptional school culture rooted in trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence

•  Strategic decision-making that results in improved student and educator outcomes

•  A leadership presence that is felt daily by students, staff, and families alike
‍

Example Nominee Profile: A middle school principal who transformed a school on a corrective action list into a model of instructional excellence within three years by redesigning teacher professional development, creating collaborative planning time, and launching a student leadership program that dramatically reduced disciplinary incidents.

The Legacy Award

Eligible Nominees: Any PreK–12 educator or administrator with 20 or more years of full-time service in accredited U.S. schools who has demonstrated a lasting impact on education and a strong commitment to mentoring the next generation of educators and school leaders.
‍

What It Recognizes:

•  Decades of sustained excellence and deep institutional knowledge freely shared with others

•  A mentorship legacy — the educators they have shaped who are now shaping students of their own

•  Systemic contribution: curriculum, policy, professional development, or community impact at scale

•  A career that other educators point to when asked what great teaching looks like

‍

Example Nominee Profile: A 30-year high school English teacher who has mentored over 15 student teachers, authored a widely used writing workshop curriculum, and whose former students include current teachers, school district leaders, or possibly an award-winning children's book author — all of whom credit her classroom as the moment that changed them.
